November 7, 2005 Committee Meeting Minutes (as approved by the Committee)

In attendance: Dave McChristian, Karen Jaris, Ken Jernberg, Neil Pedersen, Liz Pietsch, Geoff Schmit and Eileen Thurston

1) Approved minutes of the October 10, 2005 Committee meeting with amendments.

2) Treasurer’s Report – Dave presented the final version of the 2004-2005 financial report and proposed 2005-2006 budget.

Action: Submit 2005-2006 annual budget for Committee approval in December – Dave McChristian

3) Fundraising – Bob Sedath monies and unsold popcorn have been turned in.

Action: Present popcorn sale results to Committee in December – Bob Sedath

4) Advancement – The second Merit Badge Clinic session is on November 19th.  Work continues to advance new Scouts to 2nd class.  Mike Thurston’s Eagle Ceremony is scheduled for 2 p.m. on November 26th with a reception to at the Thurston’s house to follow.  Mark Jaris’ Eagle Project to build a wheel-chair ramp at a home is scheduled for November 19 and 20.

5) Activities – The Silo Climbing camp-out is scheduled November 11-13.  The Holiday dinner is scheduled on December 9th with lock-in at St. Tim’s to follow.  The Committee discussed additional promotion of the Troop 501 Open House on the 15th and initiated a plan to mail an invitation to all 5th and 6th grade boys who attend St. Timothy Lutheran Church.  Invitations have were distributed to Cub Scout Pack leaders at the last two Roundtable meetings.

6) Service projects – The Troop will be ‘Scouting for Food’ in the Indian Hill, The Place, Eagle Chase and Amberwood subdivisions.  Eileen Thurston signed up for Salvation Army bell ringing 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on December 10th at the Jewel at Ogden and Washington.

7) Quartermaster – No report.

8) Leadership – The Committee discussed a request from Pastor Johnson for the Troop to share the Multi-purpose Room with the St. Timothy Volleyball Ministry starting in January 2006.  The Troop would use the Cornerstone Center (original Church Sanctuary and former pre-school area) on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month.  One alternative to this is for the Troop to switch its meeting night to Monday nights.  Pastor Johnson has approved the Troop’s plan to install a display box on the wall at the bottom of the stairs.  There seems to be no urgency to address the Troop’s storage space issues.  Geoff discussed planning disability awareness training with the PLC.

Action: Poll families for input on keeping or changing the meeting night Troop Committee Training

Action: Plan disability awareness training with the PLC – Geoff Schmit

Open Action: Neil will work to fill the Training Coordinator and May Picnic openings.

9) Roundtable – The November Roundtable was full of information including John Myers discussion of Eagle Projects, a survey for Troop OA Representatives, the new 1st Class requirement to recruit Scouts, the Eagle Dinner on February 17th, a Lincoln and Grant pilgrimage program to Springfield and Galena the last two weekends in April, a Wood Badge Dinner on May 10th, 2006, Scout-o-rama at the Kane County Cougar’s Stadium in Geneva on May 20th (conflicts with the Troop’s Archery Camp-out) and the new District calendar.
